Local business website checklist
Use this checklist to review your own website in about 15 minutes. The items are in order of importance within each section, so start at the top.
1. Getting in touch
- Your phone number is at the top of every page, and on a phone it starts a call when tapped.
- There is one clear button such as “Get a free quote” or “Book now” near the top of the page.
- The enquiry form asks only for what you need to reply (name, phone or email, message).
- The contact page loads and has a form, a tap-to-call number and an email link.
- Visitors are told what happens after they send a form, and when you will reply.
2. Trust
- The site shows https:// and no “Not secure” warning.
- Two or three genuine recent reviews, or your Google rating, appear near the main button.
- Your address or service area is in the footer and matches your Google Business Profile.
- The copyright year is current and there are no broken links.
- There is a privacy notice, linked from the footer and the enquiry form.
- Real photos of you, your team or your work, rather than only stock images.
3. Being found
- Search engines are allowed to list your pages (no “noindex” or “discourage search engines” setting).
- Each page has a title of 50–60 characters with your main service and town.
- Each page has a search description of 140–160 characters.
- Each page has one clear main heading.
- Your business details are marked up for search engines (LocalBusiness structured data).
- You have a page for each main service and the main towns you cover.
4. Speed and mobile
- The site is set up for mobile screens and easy to use with a thumb.
- The homepage starts loading quickly, even on mobile data.
- Large images are compressed.
What next?
Fix anything in section 1 first: it is the most direct cause of lost enquiries. If you would like a second pair of eyes, our free scan gives you a Website Leak Score and a private report with the evidence and the fix to make first.
